The doctoral candidates and research assistants of the HPC group at RWTH Aachen University met with Prof. Matthias S. Müller for the annual HPC Research Retreat on February 18th and 19th, 2018, in Oberwinter. There, numerous HPC-related topics have been discussed: runtime correctness analysis, performance and effort estimations, OpenMP task affinity, automatic classification of job problems with hardware performance counters, performance prediction for HPC applications under power caps, vector engine offloading, discrete Fourier transformations in the exascale era, and the effects of Spectre and Meltdown countermeasures on the HPC cluster.
